Archival Tape Transfers
At Soundview Analog we have the ability to transfer recordings from various formats of tape (1, 2, 3, 4, 8 tracks), and other no-longer-produced audio formats that otherwise are unavailable at other studios today.
Our machines have been used for transfers of The Beach Boys and obscure artists masters alike as we work with musicians, labels, museums, and universities on these meticulous projects.
Our collection of tape machines is focused primarily on the 1950s–1970s and can accommodate most every major format available then. If you are not seeing something you need, let us know, we may have access to it, it its not in our studio today.
Our Formats:
Quarter inch
1 track – Ampex 300, Ampex 351
2 track – Revox A77, RevoxB77
Half inch
3 track – Scully 280A, Ampex 440-B
4 track – Scully 280A
Other formats
Vinyl and Acetate/Lacquer discs (33, 45, 78 rpm, 7”, 10”, 12” 16”)
Smaller reel tapes on 3” 5” 7” reels, (3.75 ips, 7.5 ips, 15 ips)

Rates
Hands-on playback, recording: $75 hourly (includes setup, cleaning, repairs, etc)
Processing, digitizing, uploading: $10 per reel/disc
Baking: $10 per item
Transfer details
We most transfers using high-quality studio grade converters at 24bit/96khz or 44.1khz depending on the client request. We can got higher, but find it usually not necessary for full fidelity depending on the source material.
We can transfer tapes to secure digital upload, hard disk, DVD, or CDs (data or audio) depending on your needs.
Quality, Safety & Baking
When handling your materials, we always wear Nitrile Latex Free archival gloves, ensuring no trace is left and things are preserved in the state you delivered to us in. We take very close care to make sure all our machines our consistently calibrated, services, and running smooth. In the event your tapes are shedding and need baking, we are happy to provide that service (prices above). Read more about tape baking here.
